A day in which you write something is a day well-spent

I think that I’ve come to realize the importance of “background chatter” in books. The main plot line is all well and good, but it needs the subplots and background characters that make it come to life. Without these, readers don’t get a sense of the world that the characters are travelling in. I am further investigating this in my own works, and I think I’ll have to add some background chatter in some chapters to keep the story from flat-lining.
